St. Croix Prep Marathon a Huge Success

An astonishing $101,069 was raised by generous and hardworking St. Croix Prep students and families.  THANK YOU!   This is a new St. Croix Prep Marathon record and nearly $20,000 more than was raised last year!

Individual students prepared for the marathon by training for the run in physical education class and raising funds by reaching out to family and friends.  Each classroom prepared for this event by supporting each other, and  creating their own ‘team’ sign and ‘team’ chant.

Marathon Day was kicked off once again by the annual opening ceremonies where each classroom proceeded out to the starting area carrying their team sign and shouting their classroom chant, as upbeat music played throughout the field.  Coach Seim, Leo the Lion and the St. Croix Prep’s fall athletic team captains then led students in the school song, national anthem, cheering contests and group stretch.

Finally it was time to run!  Kindergarten kicked-off the run followed by each grade level.  Students then enjoyed a complimentary hot dog lunch, participated in activities including cosmic pin guard, tug-of-war, powder puff football and dodgeball.  This was followed by a celebratory closing ceremonies, which included a lot of ‘thank-yous’, more cheering and a raucous inter-division game of Hungry Hungry Hippo.

“This event is truly amazing!  I’m so impressed with the amount of support the students and their families give to the school,” exclaimed Amanda Jamison events manager for the school.  When asked why the school feels this year was such a success, she stated, “We feel much of the success was due to the creation of new incentives that the kids really wanted to obtain as well as the use of the online peer-to-peer fundraising platform. Utilizing the new online platform allowed families the opportunity to reach a wider audience with features like social media sharing and hotlinks through email.  In house, the online platform allowed us to reduce entry errors and reduce  the hundreds of data entry labor hours which were required with the manual collection system used in past years.”

“This event is so important! It not only brings our community together for a day of celebration and outdoor activity, the funds raised helps  to close the funding gap that exists between our school and other local school districts,” emphasized Kelly Gutierrez, St. Croix Prep co-founder and chief financial officer.  The funding gap to which Gutierrez refers is due to the fact that St. Croix Prep does not receive any of the property tax levy dollars that the resident school district receives, which equates to approximately $1.5 million dollars annually.  The funds raised will be used to enrich all SCPA students’ education by funding areas such as classroom field trips and assemblies, as well as classroom technology, equipment and other furnishings.

We would like to thank this year’s generous event sponsors:   Creative Homes, Diesel Dogs, HighMark Wealth Management, L’etoile du Nord, Marketplace Home Mortgage, Mattamy Homes, Platinum Bank and Valley Orthodontics.   In addition, we thank our generous in-kind donors:  Afton Alps, Anagram, Brine’s Market, Health Partners Power Up and US Foods.
